ABOUT ABOUT

Armstrong State University has released the following statement:
Based on the National Hurricane Center's latest projection for Hurricane Matthew, classes at Armstrong's main campus in Savannah and the Armstrong Liberty Center in Hinesville will be canceled as of noon today.

All classes scheduled for this evening and Thursday and Friday are cancelled. Special events on campus including Armstrong's Pirate Preview event and U.S. Marine Band Concert, originally planned for Saturday are also canceled.

From the Marine Band:
Due to our touring route, this concert, scheduled for Oct. 8, cannot by rescheduled. Thank you to all of the patrons and Armstrong State University who supported us in Savannah. Please be safe.

The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

In the style of the band’s 17th Director John Philip Sousa, who initiated the concert tour tradition in 1891, Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Jason K. Fettig has chosen a diverse mix of programs, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos.

This concert is part of the 2016 U.S. Marine Band National Tour through the southeast. The concert is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are limited to 4 per request.
